One of my biggest frustrations with this is that we have put into place a system where schools are the safety net for children...they feed children, they look out for their welfare. We can't as a society set that up and then summarily take it away. I could never have imagined a situation where the political left would demand for children to be cut off from that safety net, and I think there's a lot to answer for.
And I am devastated to realize it will spill into 2022. A CNN analyst said he thinks kids should be masked for another 1-2 years. If that happens, that means that if a child was in Kindergarten when the pandemic hit in March 2020, they'll be in 4th grade before they can take off their mask.
Might as well reissue this with a 2022 release date. Seems a well thought thesis applicable forever. The public demands "do something" but rather than acknowledge the futility of the most heavy measures, we are left with the obvious- please stay away from public exposure, use your judgement, it will pass. The search for therapeutics ought to continue and that harm reduction should be the goal of the medical team. While for this pandemic we imagined technology would leap forward with the magic vaccine, we are disappointed in how poorly it works in practice with minimal long term safety assurances forthcoming. At least SARs-CoV-2 isn't as deadly as some in the past.
Frankly, I think the public demands whatever they are told to demand (by the institutions they trust). Our "news" was relentlessly fearful and failed to weigh the pros/cons, so the people did the same. If the media had provided rational coverage, none of this would have lasted more than 1-2 months. Why was it necessary for the narrative to be so tightly controlled and one-sided?
The ACLU's recommendations (against lockdowns) in a formal document from just a few years ago are pretty amazing too. That was before the ACLU started doing the opposite of what the ACLU used to do, of course.

We had a plan and threw it out the window. The baby and the bath water. The kids are still being thrown under the bus...and it’s nov 2021.
