I don’t understand why “experts” are insinuating that washing does much when the only reliable way to kill the parasite is via heat. It is like Covid hygiene theater. Of course you should wash your produce. But, washing does not remove the parasite.
Ultimately, most of us are perfectly capable of dealing whatever nature throws at us. Usually, those who can't were already beyond their biological lifespan.

I would expect a first and last name for the ID specialist mentioned in the news post. I am trying to summon my inner “economist” to make credibility more valued among public health colleagues. Perhaps I should partner with a psychologist and an actual economist to develop a strategy.

The media are idiots and those who follow their advice, well, I wonder if they’ll ever learn discernment. Likely not.
I agree with Prasad that media coverage of these outbreaks is overly alarmist.
The more important question is why the media has become the public’s primary interpreter of evolving epidemiologic data during national outbreaks.
That role should belong to HHS, CDC, and FDA through updated, transparent, evidence-based communication.
In the absence of that context (as is the case at present) the media ends up conducting the public-health briefing, which is unfortunate.
