Certainly there are individuals that understand and live in the real world and they tend to be concentrated in the departments of engineering and hard sciences. It is debatable whether academic medicine can be considered a science these days. Those individuals that harbor "real world" views have learned to keep their heads down if they want to keep their jobs.
9 out of 10 Americans have CKM and 70% are obese. Science never criticized the fraudulent BMI when it took over in 1985 and replaced the honest HAMWI. They refuse to say out loud what is clear: in the 50s we ate annually 1500 pounds of food per capita and today it is 2000. Just 70 pounds more each decade. And no one said a word. Now it is too late.
