Our schools at all levels need to do a better job at educating people on how to think critically. (This will entail educating the educators to think critically as well.) #Goals
Dr. Prasad, I believe many (majority?) of GOP base have stopped paying attention to the NY Times/Washington Posts of the world. They have become a caricature of news and not worth the paper that it's printed on. It's and old theme but Covid coverage really nailed the coffin (I believe). It's these same liberal elite media that fawn over race baiters like Harry Rogers (aka Ibrahim Kendi) as it fits the narrative. Ask yourself why he thought it necessary to change his name? Sooner the people realize that 99% of news is fake the better we'll be. I'm thankful for independent journalists: Breaking Points, Rising, Substack, Locals, and yes JRE and Megyn Kelly's of the world.
Let me put it this way...as the old saying goes...I wouldn't cross the street to piss on NY Times if the newsstands were on fire!
A lot of non GOP, former democrats have done the same, left MSM and found alternative news, not commentary. I think the vitriol and virtue signaling finally got to many of us, both sides of the aisle.
Indeed, anyone who changes their name or ‘reimagines’ their heritage (aka lies about their background) should stay quiet. Clearly they are struggling with their own identity and should get that straight before opining on anything!
Honestly prior to this post, I never heard of Francesca Gino and Dan Arieli, but their level of fraud seems to be somewhat common. The "power pose" chick comes to mind, among others.
In this case Kendi's fraud is worse, as not only has his "research" fueled an entire seemingly useless industry of DEI bureaucrats at nearly every private and public institution, but he demonstrated that a complete lack of substance and rigor could get a free pass - as I am fairly certain he will still be putting out books that NYT celebrates, invited to give commencement addresses at prestigious institutions, and cited as a leading thinking in race matters.
Since you ask...I think making up data is worse, because it is a more devious deception that takes more effort to debunk. If you don't even offer data, I can quickly dismiss your claim. If you made the data up, especially if you have some reputation, I am more likely to assume you are right and it will take me longer to find out you are not. Though more important is your next point, namely that these claims should not be given so much attention in the first place, and I totally agree. On behavioral economics I think the problem is we are always looking for easy fixes, hence the fascination that very simple tricks will suffice to 'nudge' people towards massively beneficial changes. Great post, and your solution is spot on.
What do you think about John Campbell’s frantic campaign to stop the World Health Organisation pulling a fast one on a disinterested world? (You Tube Dr John Campbell/WHO)
Kendi is a race-baiting huckster of the highest degree. His claims are polarizing, baseless, and borderline churlish. He coined the word "antiracist" which is a worldview praxis based in CRT which would have one to view EVERYTHING as woven with the racist fabric. Worst part is, the upper echelons of medical academia have bought in...hook, line, and sinker. If you see "antiracist" in the DEI statement, you can bet it's an institution steeped in CRT.
It was NOT just the academic elite but large swaths of the establishment that bowed before the altar of Kendi. The willful blindness of the young and the old, the smart and not-so-smart are rampant in today's world. That is why the deep and informed skepticism of individuals like Vinay are so important.
It bothered me when I went to hear Ibrahim speak and he said some of his friends thought he might have gotten colon cancer from stress from racism. Silence in the all white audience. (lots of white guilt, I guess)
And what do we make of academics who ignore data? Data that is repeatedly shown to be as true as science can be? What do we call them? Liars? Data blindness? Stupid?
Before the Internet and the fear of science by uneducated and anti-intellectual people, everyone had COMMON SENSE. This was valued whereas today no one even mentions it. The Media ignores the consequence of their reporting. They are too desperate to think a day ahead. If we brought back common sense and gave people context such as : Yes it is tragedy to be born someone who hates their sex and feels they should be the opposite. Fortunately, this number is 1/10th of 1 percent! But if the Media said that then who would read their stories. Meanwhile, most Americans think every 5th person is trans. Just like they think the 16 million Jews run everything. Why? They think there are a billon Jews.
Chris Rufo is on the front line of the battle against this intellectually bankrupt nonsense. There are a slew of others like DW (through JP & Klaven), James Lindsay, Pluckrose & Boghossian. Rufo knows, we have to start providing a more balanced education at all levels of learning. He just hasn't quite worked out how to do it, but he is trying and he is in a position to actually achieve results..
Maybe centralized policies in a diverse nation ... ARE the problem? Inherently, how likely is it that one expert, no matter how talented, could solve universal problems educating millions of kids of different genders, socioeconomic backgrounds, heritage, regional cultures, religion, etc., etc., etc. with a single book of wisdom?
This is the arrogance of the elite. To solve the problem, maybe let local school boards with local elections in your local county handle 90% of their own business and be accountable to the people who's kids they are trying to educate. Then you can handle the other 10% centrally, like "segregation" or "opioid education" or whatever is required for a particular generation.
It's the constant meddling by moralizing right-wingers and "whattabout" leftists continually invading our schools that we are tired of. Maybe my school has a trans kids that wants to be on the swim team and we have to deal with that, but why teach EVERY SCHOOL in the country about "trans rights?" This is the stuff that makes us crazy.
Have you even read Xendi’s book? It doesn’t sound like it. The fact that poor children, especially Black and Latino suffered most from COVID lockdowns. Systemic racism at work. Please show the evidence that Kendi says EVERY policy has to do with race. I bet you have made the correlation between Xendi’s ideas and his management failure and turned it into causation. Very sloppy Prasad.
You're right that the covid lockdowns, especially the school lockdowns, are racist and classist. The people who supported these lockdowns were generally the same people who support Kendi. They were also supported by Biden, Fauci, Wolensky, and Jha. Moreover, wealthy Black and Hispanic kids were generally exempt from these lockdowns.
Clearly he hasn't read Ariely, either, if he thinks the concepts are "simple."
What I find strange is that he's passing judgment while these are still in the investigative stages. That seems like something the media he is decrying would do. Like saying a vaccine was safe before we actually knew ... just, you know, to pick an example off the top of my head.
VP, as a peer oncologist, I think this is an easy one. My understanding is that Kendi does not claim to have reached his conclusion after meticulous research; he is espousing his world view for which he may be exposing himself to criticism and dissent. My claim that communism is bad for people is based on observation with a dose of personal values, not research, although I could fudge data to solidify my belief.
Kendi may be guilty of flawed logic or self-serving grandiosity, but not deception. Francesco and Arieli are basically cheating their way to stardom. They are not rendering opinions, they’re fudging data to try to validate them and turn their ideas into facts.
I wonder if the overload of information we now have at our fingertips has led people to conclude more easily that when they don't understand something, it is because they are ignorant and everyone else is ahead of them. I take the opposite view - there is so much information, look only for consequential information and assume the bulk of what we read is wrong because it is so easy to come up with and amplify.
So far as no data or made up data, either way can have a significant effect depending on the context, but apparently no data is easier for most people to digest as it is harder debunk a vacuum of data. Is it harder to consider what you don't know, eg that Kendi doesn't offer evidence, than what is offered as data when it is false data?
It's actually a lot more simple: (1) The "media" is just another name for the Ministry of Propaganda of the Left, and (2) Facts/ evidence are an anathema to the Left.
Gino/Arieli are guilty of fabricating data; at least Kendi did not falsify experiments, merely asserted (quite successfully!) that his expertise and opinions were prima facia true. My thoughts, Kendi is less of a fraud for this reason alone.

Please add the Daily Wire to your media list👍🏻😉

Great minds...my default assumption is that all the information in corporate media is a form of advertising.
Advertising, or propaganda?
Either works for me. Isn’t propaganda just political advertising?

Or maybe the white folks were thinking of all their white friends who had colon cancer?
You're making me laugh!
Pure nonsense from woke children!
