I’m still angry about all of this. I work in healthcare. Never missed a day of work nor did I want to. Yes, things were uncertain initially. I was afraid, but by the time it came to extended school closures and masking my daycare aged toddler, I knew it was dubious advice at best. It sickens me what kids missed during formative years (while bars and restaurants were open). As you say, scientists make mistakes all the time and mistakes are part of the process. Just own up to it.

Fauci was one example on the national scale. Deborah Birx is another. She was attempting to distance herself from Fauci in an interview last night. Fauci was wrong on most aspects of the Covid response. Upon that we can agree. But how about all those who should have known better (and did) but just rolled over and followed the “rules”: Physicians, certification boards, state boards of medicine, hospital medical staffs and executive committees, and local health departments. If there had been any degree of solidarity to not just say NO but HELL NO, much of this pain, suffering, and death could have been avoided. Even now there is nothing but dead silence from colleagues who now know they were wrong. That concerns me for the future. When we meet the new boss who is the same as the old boss, they will all fall in line if they have anything to lose.
Fauci was a useful idiot & his massive ego made it easy for his handlers. This was a DARPA funded military event that hid behind public health. Fauci does not appear to be a decent or intelligent scientist/doctor but an egomaniac who loved being the face of it as long as he was deluded into believing his greatness & made filthy rich. Seriously why else would this moron survive every administration for the past 50 years - they stroke his ego while he does what he’s told.
The masking thing was especially annoying. They literally did nothing beneficial. The only result was litter and a lot of slurping of moist, CO2 saturated air. Sure, they're good for dust, pollen, that sort of thing. I looked at A LOT of studies--many dozens of them--looking at every conceivable situation, and there was always zero benefit. Except, of course, for the manufacturers. They made BANK. And I still have friends and family who believe they work. No evidence gets through. It's a religion.

I was sharing some experiences with a retired professor of abnormal psychology, about how dealing with dark triad personalities in business, induced me to out-Machiavelli them to stop their harm to myself and others.
She asked me "didn't you feel good about winning those conflicts?" I answered "no, every experience was a horror from beginning to end, the last thing I want is to express any bit of those traits myself, for any reason. I felt terrible, even though "winning" stopped an ongoing series of very destructive acts."
She smiled and said "then you're okay. If you felt good, you'd be at risk of becoming a psychopath yourself. These people may have a predisposition, but they don't behave that way in isolation."
You were harmed by the actions of a psychopath, and lost almost everything but your own soul. Justice is better regarded with grim satisfaction than pleasure, lest the abyss that looks back, command us evermore.

Fear and Greed drive the market. Unfortunately, it also drove HealthCare policy at a time when the whole world was vulnerable. All perpetuated by lies and non-science. No one should feel sorry for this guy, nor defend him.
Thank you Dr Prasad for once again raising the questions that should be asked. This is not about a witch hunt -this is about learning and yes, also holding people accountable for the damage -to our kids, the underserved and poor and to our public health system. It is necessary to address these concerns and questions in order for people at large to start regaining some sense of trust in public health and science. It is sad really, as the gross mismanagement feels like it’s set us back decades.
He deserves ALL the blame for ALL the bad policies. He alone coukd have stood up and said stop this nonsense, but he didn’t. He started it and propagated it.

Excellent commentary, but weakened by the Cheney analogy. Iraq made everyone believe they had WMDs and refused any inspections. Bush/Cheney had plenty of support for Iraq, including every major intelligence agency and the UN.
