The statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics is a flat lie. "There are no studies to support this concern" doesn't mean it's not a problem. It means that no one has looked yet.

Indeed, the direct research on masking specifically is sparse. However, decades of research on language development suggests the exact opposite of what they are claiming.

The AAP is without a doubt the most evil/worthless of the professional organizations. I have no idea how the rank and file pediatricians let them continue to exist. All such organizations have problems (I am a member of and have sat on the Board of several) but as Vinay points out, the AAP has long been an impossibly bad outlier.

The pediatricians-writ-large should all just resign and start another professional organization. If they do not, they will have an increasingly impossible-to-overcome credibility problem. I am hearing this from parents and docs in lots of places.

They should all be ashamed, but this is actually something (as opposed to most of the stupidity out there which Vinay is increasingly pointing out) that could be fixed with relatively modest action. Go to it, Pediatricians.

I think it's an excuse for sociopaths to act out in ways they have never been allowed to in the past.

Morons. Morons. Morons. Great way to tell the whole world you are a bloody moron.

There are so many in school systems who just are not fit to tell the time of day.

I’d bet that the principal donated money to BLM in 2020. Probably supported defunding the police. Bless her heart

Everyone has lost their ever-loving mind. Honestly, the parents of this child should be grateful to have their precious child away from these complete idiots. I’ve lost all faith in all educators. Blithering idiots.

We lived in an east coast state where the police would be called for kids walking home alone from school. In one case, CPS got involved. (There was more to the story stemming from a neighbor dispute among the adults, but still.) And we wonder why kids aren’t left to “go and be kids” any more… it certainly influenced our parenting choices. Thankfully we live in an area now where that’s less of a concern.

It’s amazing how many resources are wasted on non-issues, when children in horribly dangerous situations are overlooked.

This is just so hard to swallow. It’s so demented and sad. Our poor children through all of this mess…

Seeing this happen in August, 2022 breaks my heart for these kids. When you add in where it happened it's even worse. This is Mountain View, CA, firmly nestled in Silicon Valley. It's home to Google, Microsoft, Linkedin and other high tech companies. A search of the voters there in Santa Clara county show that 72.6% of them voted Democrat in the last election. There were no stats for common sense, but we already what they would be.

My personal theory is that those propagandized as to the “safety” of m@sks, feel “safe” in them. Safe from what? From microbes, but also from other people. People who are uninformed, thus unclean. I felt that way at one time, even though I physically feel “unsafe” in m@sks, because I’m prone to overheating in them. It’s also unfortunate that those who believe themselves informed are fine with substituting m@sks for proper ventilation. But to not understand the age risk gradient…..well, that’s pretty basic.

Again,

Normalization of adult mental and emotional illness, at the expense of our children.

"too many scientists have been dishonest" - Our crisis of confidence in a nutshell. As the CDC tries to cover over their blunders of policy, they still won't admit the obvious in the data. Masking was of marginal benefit for anybody and pointless on children. If they said that today it would take weeks for the mask tyrants to adjust because it has become a matter of faith, not science.

The confrontation with a child was perhaps quite stupid and wrong.

Thinking about this further, maybe it's time to create a parallel education system, or some kind of charter school where police will never be called on 4 year olds. Parents who can will assist in classrooms and many of us retired can at least commit to a semester yearly. I imagine that my initial employment keeping twelve juvenile delinquents at a time busy (for up to twelve hours) would qualify me to teach whatever a four year old needs to know lol.

How will any children in that class feel "safe" after one of their own is escorted out by a police officer? Talk about setting a terrible precedent!! These people are not concerned about kids,or are so out of touch with reality that they will follow any mandate without questioning.

And VP gets the same old character assassination - oh the leftist playbook is so outre.

Insecure adults playing make-believe aren't worth your attention anyway. You've won this long ago.

The AAP loves to say "there are no studies showing X" to mislead people, when the truth is no studies have been done either way to prove or disprove X. At best this is intellectually dishonest.
