It won’t look good for his legacy? His legacy isn’t looking too good at the moment. These preemptive pardons set a bad precedent for transparency and accountability by our Federal Agencies and are, frankly, dangerous. I do hope the states can seek redress from Fauci for the damages he wrought.
Wow! I can't wait for Fauci to undergo new Congressional testimony! He will not be able to "take the 5th" because of this pardon, and he will then be required to answer truthfully (finally!). And yet, if or when he denies his support for Gain of Function Research, he will have committed a new crime for which he could be imprisoned!
Fauci's arrogance is so well epitomized when he declared that HE WAS THE SCIENCE! Now, we know that he was simply a power-hungry man who sided with the economic interests of Big Pharma ahead of the personal health needs of Americans.
"If a pardon had been accepted, a recipient would not be able to plead "the fifth" because there would be no threat of self-incrimination, a law professor told Newsweek"
Well sh*t. Isn't it nice to have friends in high places?
Maybe it's time to abolish presidential pardons. When I grew up, I thought they were the last ditch effort at justice for low-income peons who'd spent 30 years on death-row on flimsy evidence. Or maybe for whistleblowers like Edward Snowden (wait, has he been pardoned yet?)
But this is becoming third-world country level ridiculousness. Presidents shouldn't be allowed to pardon family, acquaintances or federal employees who did their bidding.
Once someone has committed a murder, he is not too reluctant to commit the next murder since the risk of being caught and the amount of punishment does not change very much.
Once Biden pardoned his son Hunter (which he had to do), he figured that pardoning the whole family would not change his legacy by much. So why not?
Great comments. It is telling that he was pardoned not just for alleged perjury to Congress, but anything and everything related to his official USG work since 2014, when the pause on GOF research went into effect. This event should give new momentum for an FBI criminal investigation into the origin of covid. Now that Fauci is off the hook, Democrats should have no objection. The world needs to know the truth.
The Covid response is a gift that keeps on giving for progressives who used to run the country (and, sub-rosa, still do). It was a real-life wargame, and it proved to the eager-beavers in the power elite that they could engineer a total suspension of the Bill of Rights.
Agreed. But those of us on the Alt Middle to Right that (initially at least) trusted the Public Health authorities won’t be doing that again. They showed their hand, and once you do that everyone knows your strategy.
So the United States pardons a person who was obviously responsible for the creation of the COVID pandemic which killed millions world wide and then supported treatment that killed millions more. The Nuremberg trials after WWII codified informed consent with a fraction of the casualties and dealt with those responsible.
the most corrupt president in my lifetime (1953) pardons the most corrupt "scientist" who did absolutely nothing wrong. there has to be a way to "get" this guy, to serve him up as an example to keep this from happening again.
Pre-emptive pardons should not be allowed. May be we need a constitutional amendment.
Only people who are convicted of specific crimes, and those who have confessed to specific crimes (in writing) should be pardoned, and that too for only those specific crimes.
The pardon is clearly a mixed bag for Fauci because it is a clear admission that he is and has been a potential target for criminal investigations and litigation. If "Mr. Science" had nothing to worry about, there would be need for a preemptive pardon. Although not a crime, in the spring of 2020, he clearly functioned without admitting any conflict of interest which has become vital in medical circles. He had a vested interest in preventing the world from understanding that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the source of SARS-CoV2. Fortunately for him, the Chinese Communist Party imposed a lockdown on any inquiry into the Institute and has done so to this day.
I know people will say (as have I) that history will judge him harshly. But I'm at a point that I want God to judge him. Deuteronomy 32:35 and Romans 12:19 Lying sacks of $hit.
Fauci might be pardoned but we all know that his legacy is forever tarnished because of the pardon. Fauci can get his comeuppance another time. At 84, he’s a pardoned criminal. Great legacy!
Truth and justice for all regardless Presidential pardons. If the government will not bring justice to Fauci, the people should. Continue the investigation. He deserves a speedy trial by a jury of his peers.

Exactly. Why is a pardon requested when the person has not been officially accused of a crime?
He will likely develop a "medical infirmity" that will ostensibly prevent him from testifying.
Of course he can. Why can't he? 5th Amendment doesn't say "unless he has a pardon"

This pardon of Fauci proves that Biden himself is also a part of the criminal mafia that funded and created the bioweapon known as coronavirus.
Fauci was an active participant in the bioweapons project, but he is far from the only one.
His actual last act was to preemptively pardon his family.

This pardon really upsets me.
Me too.
Unconscionable. Thank you for laying bare these facts.

One doubts they have unlearned this lesson.
