Thank you! My son’s 5th grade class is going on a camping trip and a mom was asking about whether the kids will mask sleeping!! (They will try to balance airflow with not freezing the kids!!). When my daughter went on this trip, a girl was bit by a snake (she was ok) and my daughter got a tick (teacher removed and took a pic and luckily she didn’t get Lyme disease but that’s a real risk of hiking.
Hiking and camping is inherently risky. But there are so many incredible benefits. (Just like letting a 16 yr old drive is risk but beneficial).
My original point was actually going to be that Lyme disease causes major long covid type symptoms. Hiking is inherently risky because you can get a tick and have long term issues. But it’s fair to say the benefits of hiking are worthwhile and still do it (and perhaps others never let their kids outside in the woods)
Taking medicines that crush viral replication help to prevent Long Covid. The longer the virus replicates, the greater the inflammation, the more likely long Covid symptoms.
On a basic over the counter level everyone should be taking the following at first symptoms:
- Quercitin + Zinc
- Artesimia Annua
- Black Seed Oil
- Turkey tail mushrooms
- Betadine nasal wash & antiseptic gargling
These are easy and a no brainer. People are just uneducated. The RCT people would rather sit on their ass than apply things used for thousands of years. The arrogance leads to Long Covid.
Didn't see oil of newt. Some of these lists get a bit out of hand. I do Q+Z and use the mouthwash/nasal stuff. That's along with the usual regime of D, K2, other vitamins.
“At this point it is clear that every single person who lives long enough will get COVID19.” This needs to be put on billboards in blue areas. In my town, as infections are rising again I hear some parents talk about keeping their elementary school kids home from school till cases drop. They’re terrified now that the mask mandates in school have ended and like 3 kids in the class are maskless all hell will break loose. I’m assuming the kids are vaccinated if the parents are this concerned. They’re convinced the kids will get long Covid. Some kind of leadership needs to be taken on this issue. I can’t imagine how miserable it must be living under parents this neurotic and delusional. (And yes we are a town where all mask mandates have ended except for the toddlers in daycare and preschool).
This abject fear is quite sad. Per the UK Challenge study half never got ill from intentional exposure. Generally few get seriously ill if in reasonable health.
When I saw the title of this post I was hoping it would be about whether early treatment can help one avoid long covid. Seems to me that's the important discussion. Perhaps the data aren't in yet on this?
I think Vinay's point, with which I agree, is there is no evidence yet that there IS long covid other than some patients with extended loss of smell. Most respiratory viruses leave some patients with longer-lasting symptoms. Many influenza patients have these same symptoms six months later as well. We have never talked about "long flu".
In a recent study, the greatest correlate with whether one "had" "long covid" or not was whether the person THOUGHT they had covid. Many who thought they had covid did not by laboratory testing; many who did not think they had covid actually had had it. The study showed that those who did not actually ever have covid but thought they did were far more likely to have "long covid" than those who actually did have covid but did not think they did.
Vinay is less straightforward than I am (but getting better as he gets more frustrated) but it is possible but unlikely that there is any such thing as long covid, or if there is it is exactly the same as long-any-respiratory-virus syndrome. (With the possible exception of extended loss of smell.)
It will take studies to show something and I am sure over the next several years we will discover more. But I would not change one thing in one's life over worry/fear of "long covid".
Yes, I agree. Does it really exist? Until proven I say no. And there definitely is no proof when you consider what Vinay is saying. I'll give an easier reason. Go search Google for 'long covid' but restrict your search dates to March 1, 2020 (before the lockdowns and many people even knew about Covid) to only June 1, 2020. You'll find they were already talking about it. Basically 9 weeks into the pandemic and there is already tons of stuff about it. If you bother to read you'll find that the definitions back then focused more on people whose symptoms lasted more than 2 weeks, 4 weeks or up to 8 weeks. Most symptoms are self reported. If anyone bothers to do a study and take a medical history and look at confounders such as history of anxiety, headaches, migraine, polymyalgia, chronic sinusitis, chronic fatigue, etc I suspect there will be some interesting findings.
And on March 5, 2020 a research team at Vinay's own institution (although he is not involved as far as I know) began studying the potential long term effects of Covid in their study titled Long-term Impact of Infection with Novel Coronavirus (LIINC). Note this was before any cases in San Francisco but they modeled a study based on their work on HIV.
I am one of those who feels I had long covid in Jan. 2022 after contacting covid/omicron. It wiped me out for about 3 months quite intensely. The long covid/omnicon was far more intense than the actual virus that lasted about 2 weeks. I ended up with a highly scattered brain, high blood pressure and tons of anxiety. I am now on blood pressure and anti anxiety medicine for those symptoms. I am not a crazy person. My doctor says that they just don't know about long covid yet, so I guess until doctors decide that it is a real event, I will continue to hopefully heal. I knew very little about long covid and was not worried at all about it beforecontracting the virus. I hope Vinay's team finds something to help those that have/had it.
I saw a story once that 75 percent of vaccine reactions were due to the “nosibo effect”. Perhaps long covid is this??!! After all your brain controls you and if it can persuade you that you are going to die due to nosibo then maybe it can convince you that you have long covid?!

Living life is inherently risky.

Just beware the Fallacy of Relative Privation because it sure seems to sneak into many arguments made about COVID's consequences.
“Living is inherently risky” - exactly
"Living life is inherently risky." Actually, it's fatal. No one here gets out alive. 🤣

Good suggestions. But I haven't seen artemisia or turkey tail mushrooms mentioned for this before. Can I ask where you saw those recommended?
Artesimia has been used for Malaria for hundreds of years. It is basically Herbal HCQL. Extremely powerful.
There are studies I think out of Ucla about Covid and Turkey Tail. But I could have the university wrong.
Herbs are what all pharmaceuticals are based off of so don’t knock ‘‘em til you try them. I rely on herbs and mushrooms for all illness.

Eye of newt. If you are trying to be cheeky. Herbs and vitamins are wildly different things.
I was being cheeky. I was thinking along the new thing of licking toads to see if anything happened. The oil is somewhat toxic I understand.

Toddlers and daycare? Are they insane?
