Memorial Day Travel: Experts vs. Americans
Americans are Rational & Experts Embarrass Themselves with Irrational Advice
Covid cases are going up. This is inevitable. Vaccines are leaky. Given that vaccines have effectiveness against symptomatic disease that approaches 0% just a few months out from the last booster (better for severe disease), that was bound to happen.
COVID cases will keep rising and falling till we saturate at 93-98% of all Americans infected. Then cases will still rise and fall with reinfections, but most Americans will be so over it, they won’t even test or document it.
This Memorial day, many Americans who already had COVID19, and already had 2-4 doses of mRNA vaccine or already had both, are deciding to travel to visit loved ones. Good for them! But, look how the media covers it.
And the media goes further, arguing that health experts advise against to take precautions!
So who is right? Americans or the Experts?
Americans are correct and the experts are lost. Americans know that after you get 1-4 doses of mRNA, plus or minus prior infection, optimize your home meds, and maybe drop some weight, there is literally nothing else you can do to lower your risk of bad COVID outcomes.
And, they know, you will get COVID19 in the short run. You may even get it twice. The good news is that all the modifiable factors —vaccination, weight, medical co-morbidities— were optimized, so you face it with the best odds you ever will.
Nothing anyone does will stop near total spread. If some people randomly wear n95s on walks outside in San Francisco (ps they do), it won’t make a lick of difference. If we force toddlers in NYC to keep wearing that useless cloth mask, no difference. If we mask on airplanes or not. If we test ourselves daily or never. Nothing will stop the inevitable spread of the virus.
Side note: we need to actively advise 20 year olds who got 3 doses and infection to STOP wearing n95s for their own mental health.
So why takes precautions anymore? The Forbes article says experts advise this to “prevent the spread”— but that is impossible.
Don’t say “long covid” because if a virus will reach 93-98% in the near term, then in so far as long covid is an issue, it is also inevitable, and not avoidable. (but watch my recent video on that on Youtube)
Americans aren’t stupid. They have an intuitive sense of the IFR of the virus from all the people we know who got sick, and did just fine. They don’t want to get sick, but they know we have always risked getting sick to drink beers in someones living room or bar, eat in a packed restaurant, and watch a movie. We have always accepted some risk for fun, and we will do it again.
Experts have lost their minds. They have the luxury of being able to work from home, have sizable incomes, can order uber eats, and sit on the internet reading about which kf94 fits the best. Real Americans want to socialize, and understand that total spread is inevitable, and that breakthrough is the price of living in society.
Experts should not look at Joe Rogan for the massive loss in public trust they face, they must look at themselves. They are elites who have lost touch with America. Their policies make no sense. They are catering to the most fearful among them. My worry is that the inevitable backlash will go too far, but at this point, I think their blunders have been so great that is also inevitable.

I have some bad news for you
Millions and millions of Americans are 100% behind every single one of these measures. Evidence doesn't matter. Efficacy doesn't matter. You are looking at broken people and in many cases broken kids.
The fact that we are still in "wear a mask if you want to" and not "take the damn mask off you lunatic" says a lot.
VP at some point I'd love for you to chime in on the Pfizer document dump + allegations of clinical trial irregularity (fraud) as documented in the British Medical Journal.
