I think a super-mild variant (like omicron if we're fortunate enough for that to be the case) is our only hope of people snapping out of this hysteria. I want to believe nearly everyone will lose patience with all restrictions if the IFR is on the order of 0.02% (as appears likely). Then again, the IFR for kids is already way lower than that, and here we are.

Sadly, Canada is already back on travel restrictions and lockdowns as if Omicron was the gravest threat to humanity. I despair for my country.

Im Canadian too. Our country and our people are lost. citizens are shouting "MORE! GOVT MUST DO MORE!!!" - ive lost all hope. I used to listed to Dr. Prasad...to give me hope...maybe others will come forward, maybe reason will prevail, maybe maybe maybe! But it has only become worse. I have not much left. I respect these honest actors....but my hope is gone.

Yes, and what's worse, there's a popular narrative that all this is the government's fault and that we should remain "nice" with our fellow citizens, but in Canada, like other places, it's not the government that initially pushed for each removal of civil rights, it's the populace. Very discouraging.

Yes. It's 100% biopolitics. I know politicians are bad- this is nothing new. But the population has gone medieval. When our PHO in BC Bonnie Henry stated she " did not feel comfortable having unvaccinated people in her home" and putting masks on kids under 12 September 2021, after being fine all last year - these were the nails in the coffin for me. This fanned the flame of the majority. I dont see us doing well for years to come.

I'm in California but grew up on Vancouver island and we have a home there, so I'm very familiar with the shift in Dr. Henry's narrative. When we went up to Canada the summer of 2020, I thought she was amazing, there was no mask mandate and it felt so free (compared to California)... then by February of 2021, when we were seriously contemplating moving our family to BC, we drove up and spent some time there and wow, things had changed. She had done a 180 and life was even more draconian than it is in the San Francisco bay area where we live (and that is saying something!!) I am worried for Canada and it breaks my heart to see what is happening both here in California, and up there in BC. The children have been sacrificed for political purposes and to sooth the irrational fears of the entranced populace.

Until august , i used to be her biggest defender! I knew she had to make тАЬ compromisesтАЭ to keep kids in school. But her reversal of тАЬ no vaccine passportтАЭ promise, new masking of under 12тАЩs sept 2021, PLUS her change in communication style ie тАЬ i dont feel comfortable in having unvaxxed in my homeтАЭ made me do a 180. She is now fully discredited in my books.

Something significant happened in august, as that is when all politicians did an about face. WA state governor was fairly reasonable until mid August 2021 then he went full on authoritarian.

August 2021 was the worst month in this whole debacle. I had more hope in april 2020 ( esp when it was clear this was not a childs disease)

Same, IтАЩm in BC too. A friend recently accused me of being ok with killing grandma since I wonтАЩt take my chances with the vax n my kids. I was shockedтАжbut not. I guess try to find the humour?!!! SheтАЩs a smart woman but has become completely irrationally self righteousnessly brainwashed!! I canтАЩt believe people are freaking out about omicron.

1000%. I had a "smart woman" friend too.....past tense. These people are not moral. COMPLETELY freaking out here in BC is right.
