Forget the testing for D. Simply recommend 2000 units twice daily as our esteemed Dr Fauci does but won't recommend. Certainly those 4000 units aren't going to cause any harm and may be adequate for most. Done daily, it builds up over time. That along with mouth/nasal sanitation could help prevent infection. Not at all sure that these inexpensive tools advocated in the adverts wouldn't do much more over forcing expensive experimental drugs with known deficiencies.

Not everybody absorbs it the same and if you have any digestive issues or a genetic SNP, you may not have enough. I take 5000 units daily and mine is still below 70. The optimal functional level is 80-100. The RDA levels are meant to keep people sick not an optimal health.

Understand individuals are different, but a general recommendation of 4000 units daily would allow many to reduce deficiencies. This recent study https://www.uh.edu/news-events/stories/2022-news-articles/june-2022/06282022-vitamin-d-low-in-hispanic-black-adolescents-nursing-study.php suggests that these kids need supplements as well. Now that kids no longer go outside all day many need help. They will need those bones as they age.

I agree!

I was responding to the person that said not to test for vitamin D. The testing is needed because some people don’t absorb it so you have to check and make sure that they have adequate levels. Some folks need a large dose to bring their levels up and then they can do a maintenance level. This happened to me in perimenopause even though I was playing tennis 5 to 6 days a week in the sun in Florida and riding my bike. I am olive skinned and tend to get very tanned so I absorb vitamin D less than somebody who is fair. I also have a genetic SNP that affects my Vit D absorption.

For optimal bone health, you need a D3/K2 combination. I’m 63. That’s what I take. I’ve never broken a bone and I nursed 4 daughters for 8.5 years total.

try taking Calcifediol not the usual Cholecalciferol. it's more active, and equivalent to about 3 times as much Cholecalciferol

I take an emulsified D3K2, A high potency formula designed to help support numerous biological pathways. My point was that being in the sun for extended periods of time, doesn’t necessarily confer adequate levels of vitamin D. This supplement does not include their source of Vit D. I will call and ask them.
