While I agree that, "Vengeance is not and cannot be the goal of revisiting Covid-19 policy, but accountability should be." it's really hard not to be ANGRY. These people weren't just wrong, they were spectacularly wrong and to add insult to injury they engaged in character assassination and censorship. Their decisions ruined lives and resulted in deaths. Some people knowingly lied and they should be punished, if not by law then by society. There simply can't be forgiveness for a "whoops, I was wrong" stance on these issues. There has to be some measure of justice.

The problem too is that people who were clearly wrong, even despite evidence to the contrary, will say "better safe than sorry" or "you can never be too sure".

I agree entirely. The same people make the same mistakes (AIDS) over and over. The same analogy can be made to Wall Street where the same executives that created crises were not held to account, but actually got bonuses. Same will happen here. No, SEVERE consequences, in jail time, pulling licenses to practice, and full barring from any kind of practice of science or medicine MUST happen, lest this is simply the "rinse" moment of a lather, rinse, repeat cycle.

The wall street criss was 100% created by government. The banks did what anyone would do given the rules set up by the regulators. Why wouldn't you loan money to people if you're being incentivized to do it and all your downside is being insured against by the government?

They lobbied and paid for those rules to be enacted and exploited the language. Even so, all I hear you saying is we need to expand the pool of the guilty and as such, I stand corrected.
