This is causing a bit of a crisis for me. As a pharmacist and mother of a 4 year old and 6 month old, I never thought I'd not get my kids a vaccine. I never thought the FDA and CDC were perfect, but this is so disappointing. The evidence is so low and it will be mandated many places anyway.

I have 2 questions:
1) You said the safety data was good. The data for children 5-11 has reassured me regarding my son that the risk of myocarditis is restricted to young adult males. So while I'm not overly concerned about safety, I still didn't think much of the evidence.
Approximately 2,200 kids for Moderna and 1,000 for Pfizer for 2 months after.* I'm not expecting as many people as in the adult trials, but am I wrong to think there should be some more?
*I'm noting 2 months specifically because while more children were evaluated for safety, only that number were followed for 2 months. 2 months does seem a reasonable amount of time to evaluate vaccine safety.
2) Given the likely impossibilty of herd immunity for Covid, we aren't we focusing all efforts on how to help the high-risk population? Wouldn't this be much more effective?
I am glad the Covid vaccine will be available for high risk young children. The risk vs benefits is different for them, although it would sure be nice if we had a trial focusing on them to elucidate that
